We will just have to disagree. I think this is like telling someone they must accept someone helping them whether they want that help or not because one should try "new" things.

You can decide for yourself to change how you are a caregiver to try some new approach. But you are making that choice for yourself and not forcing someone else to try something new. Your mom does not have to try anything she doesn't want to try.

I believe in honoring the freedom of the individual to decide how they wish to live their life. Someone can make a decision that I think is silly, or stupid but it is their choice to make. In this case since one needs a drivers license to drive the authorities could have made the decision whether she could drive safely.

I know that impulse to want to help one's parents when we feel they are making the wrong choice. Believe me I have dealt with this topic intimately. My aunts wanted to put my grandmother into a home mostly because it would make their lives easier. My grandmother did not want this and since she was not incompetent I supported her right to make the decision. My aunts also wanted her to try something "new".
