Viruses mutate all the time. I don’t think we somehow brought this upon ourselves by not cleaning every surface or being as careful as you have been.

Last time I checked there were over 14 variants of COVID19. There may be more by now. It’s just the way viruses work and not some sort of retribution for not being careful enough.
