So you are in favor of corporate welfare? I am surprised you are taking this position. So welfare for every single person and legal entity in the country? If someone starts a small business and doesn't make enough to live on do they get a "living wage" as well, or are they evil capitalists?
Also I am not at all confused about what money represents. If you want to debate a topic then debate it; don't go to the "you are confused" position. I find this patronizing tone to sometimes be the refuge of shallow minds who do not want to actually get into a deep conversation on the topic.
Money is itself a "good" and there are 3 different kinds of money; commodity, fiat and bank money. "Money" has always been a medium that can be exchanged for other goods or things of value. It is not just a "representation of goods".
It can be exchanged for anything one values. Just ask a sex worker who gets paid to give someone a sexual experience. It is just way easier to give someone money rather than delivering a side of beef and a bushel of wheat in exchange for that orgasm.
I imagine that our corporate elite would love a Universal Living Wage. They can sell more shit to people and those people will just be comfortable enough that they won't strive to create anything. Less possibility of any competition and we all become good little drones.
As a just society, which I believe we strive to be, we do need to provide support for those who cannot provide for themselves. However, I believe in the inherent dignity of humans and do not want to give just everyone a handout.
Also I find it interesting that a progressive such as your self would quote Karl Marx. He was a major bigot, racist and anti semite.
“What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money. … Money is the jealous god of Israel, in face of which no other god may exist. Money degrades all the gods of man—and turns them into commodities. … The bill of exchange is the real god of the Jew. His god is only an illusory bill of exchange. … The chimerical nationality of the Jew is the nationality of the merchant, of the man of money in general.” Karl Marx, “On the Jewish Question,” 1844
I guess I see why Karl Marx despised "money" and wanted to do away with capitalism.
