Saying you "can't judge people solely by the color of their skin" suggests that you can use their color to judge them by their color a little bit. How much is that little? Ten percent, twenty five percent, more?

Let me make sure I got this right; after playing "gotcha" with these other candidates you are going to adjust the question just in case you interview a Black person.

How about fixing the question to get some real feedback that counts. You put these interviewees in an awkward position of asking about racism at a previous employer. Now they have to decide if they want to bad mouth a previous employer (which some thinks looks bad) or figure out the right thing to report. What happens if they did not personally see the racism but heard about it will that suffice to show that they are sufficiently woke?

Your co-worker Linda sounds a little bit like an officious arrogant DMV or IRS agent in the making (a little sadistic)

What about a real question that works for everyone? Like "what would you do if......" or something that will give you a real assessment of the employee no matter what color, race, or sexual orientation they happen to be.
