I have no idea where you grew up. I learned all this and more. It may have more to do with the horrible state of our education due in part to the power of teachers unions than an effort to avoid teaching this horrible history.

However I do take offense at everything being like the Holocaust. No, the slave trade was not an effort to wipe a race off the face of the earth. The Holocaust was unique in its efforts to obliterate and entire race. Slavery in the US was a horrific sin that does not mean it’s our “Holocaust”. We need to learn our past, the horrific and the good.
