I have never understood this reasoning. See I often vote against my own self interests when I vote for a new tax to fund …libraries or schools. I do it with the full knowledge that I never use the public library or my kids are grown and I would never ever ever send my kids to the horrible schools here if they were not all grown.

When I hear this line what I hear is an elite looking down his/her nose at “those people” thinking that he/her knows better because of course those people are lesser and don’t know any better.
