I agree that being able to collect this data is a danger to our freedoms and our democracy. However I strongly disagree with you putting the decision to "share" or "not share" in the hands of journalists. Their job is to report the news. Our democracy only works if the media doesn't decide on their own what to share or not share. We did not elect them to be gatekeepers of the news. Sadly the public is losing trust in the media because they are not seen as being unbiased. The media needs to publish the truth whether it supports their personal narrative or not. The public needs to pressure their politicians to pass legislation to ban the use of this data and not fall prey to fear-mongering.
