Both groups were equally problematic and moronic. If you read the actual studies masks did very little because most people had the wrong kinds of masks and wore them improperly. However, god bless you if you wanted to wear one go for it, it certainly didn’t hurt and made some people feel better. I am sure that is part of the reason for Fauci being all over the place on masks.
